I had the privilege of attending the IDEA World Fitness Conference in Los Angeles, CA this past week. When I walked into the Convention Center, the Welcome sign had the words “Inspire” written across it. As I am standing under this sign that says “Inspire” I am looking at a line of 200 Fitness Professionals dressed in black from head to toe. I was thinking to myself “how as professionals, do we inspire people dressed in the energy-less color of death. Black says do not look at me."
I asked several ladies at the convention why they wear black and all of them responded to me in the same manner, “Black hides my flaws and it matches everything, it is easy.” As fitness professionals, our job is to inspire people, to stand out, to give our clients somebody to emulate. How do we plan on inspiring anybody when we hide our own bodies from top to bottom in Black ? What message are we sending to our clients when we say, as fitness professionals, that we dress in that manner to hide our flaws. Where is our confidence? Living the fitness lifestyle is not easy, lets be honest. The way we dress and present ourselves makes a very loud and clear statement to our clients. What message are you sending?
